Headphones with TV

Post by Disciple » Tue Dec 03, 2013 7:56 pm

Anyone know a way to use headphones with a large tv? Like hooking a receiver into the headphone jack on the tv and then that going to another receiver to plug in the headphones or something similar. Or a way to do it with a smartphone?

I found:

But I don't have a spare laptop to use for this, and anyway that seems kind of cumbersome.

They sell actual headphones designed for TV use with RCA inputs. Wireless too. About $100 or so at Best Buy when I worked there last.

Otherwise you basically have to either buy a bunch of janky converters or hope your TV has a headphone output (usually 32 and under sized TVs)

You could just use a wireless headset for computer which isn't USB and buy a RCA to minijack converter for about $2 on amazon:

That way you aren't double-buying and you can use it for your computer whenever you want.

While not for all TV, the latest ROKU boxes have a headphone jack in their remotes.

Such.an.awesome.thing. when having to hold newborn for hours.

Hmm, seems like some nice options. I've got this nice pair of:

The most ideal would be some way for me to use those (though I'm already using apple tv, so don't want a roku box if I can help it). If that's not possible sounds like the best bet is to just get a separate wireless pair just for the tv.

From what I've seen you can do it through bluetooth. You have to buy a bluetooth gateway to output your TV audio into a bluetooth signal and then buy a bluetooth receiver to hook up to your sennhesiers.

I'd be wear of trying a wireless solution without hearing it first, esp. with those Sennheisers. Wireless audio generally means quality reduction unless tech has gotten way better in the past year. Though headphones use so little power it might be possible, when I check it was for read surround speakers and I couldn't find anything up to par.
