If you like RPGs and have a 3DS, you need to play this game.

I've read some stories recently where people we buying the 3DS specifically for this game, sounds promising :D

It's super good and has a lot of great quality of life options for an RPG, like adjustable encounter rate and the ability to turn off and on money, exp, and jp gain. This will last me until RoS and Dark Souls 2.

So I couldn't find it at any of the local gamestops. I'm strongly considering downloading it from the nintendo E-shop. Especially since I've been playing the demo all day and absolutely LOVE IT.

It's a great game. Scratches all the right itches for the jrpg grinders.

I just bought it store pickup at my local best buy store (it was $15 with my RZ points). Excited for tomorrow!

In case anyone has ever wondered how to keep Red Mages relevant, the Phantom Weapon support ability from Spell Fencers is amazing. With Two-Handed from Knights, it makes for a giant black magic power boost, and they can still melee as well. Even though they don't get rank 5 or 6 Black Magic, they can still do an impressive amount of damage because of Phantom Weapon.

They were even doing more damage with Fira like this than as a Black Mage geared for int with Black Magic Amp and Pierce M.Defense using Firaga.

I haven't tried either variation with the -aja skills you can get from monsters as the vampire class yet.

In any case this vastly improved the way I grind magic classes. Before I had to only put one or two characters as a magic class at a time because they generally didn't do enough damage compared to a group of melee using Crescent Moon. But Phantom Weapon makes magic do so much more damage that you can easily keep grinding as long as you need to without having to go to an inn for MP restoration if you're using Samurai subclass for Free Lunch (skills cost no MP).

The way I grinded magic classes was just to equip the S rank weapon type (usually sword/axe/spear) then just use crescent moon strike x 2. I Had 3 White Mages and a Black Mage and cleared waves no problem.

Until you fight Belphagor anyway.

But yeah, 9999 damage is pretty easy to get on Pirates and Dark Knights. Takes slightly more work on other melee classes, but melee outclasses magic really easily.

999999 damage is where it's at and without exploiting monster weakness to boot.

interview wrote:James Mello: What inspired the storyline for Bravely Default?
Mr. Asano: We created the world view as a fantasy RPG with a story revolving around crystals, because that way RPG fans won’t have any trouble jumping right into the world. The exaggerated characters are cute and players can enjoy them on their adventures. Basically this is comedic up to the point where you start really liking the characters, and then the drama develops. I used the methodology of American TV dramas like the older Beverly Hills 90210 (I’m a huge fan!), and Glee as references. In terms of games, a number of games developed outside of Japan had major influence on the storytelling. So if you think about it, I guess you could call Bravely Default a traditional Japanese RPG with American content thrown in. I look forward to hearing what all of you in the Americas think of it!

Never watched 90210 or Glee.

Did they involve crystals and pan-dimensional evil? Maybe I should look them up.
